Degree Requirements

This page applies to:

New Student Degree Requirements for Fall 2000

First Time Freshmen Students
  • Admitted the Fall 2000 semester or later

Transfer Students

  • Admitted prior to the Spring 2004 semester and initially matriculated into a SUNY institution the Fall 2000 semester or later

OR
  • Admitted Spring 2004 semester or later

Undergraduate Readmit Students
  • Admitted the Spring 2004 semester or later

Under the General Education 2000 requirements, students must complete the requisite number of credit hours in the following ten categories:

Special Notes:

  • In each of the following General Education 2000 areas:
    Math/Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts students must take at least
    one course designated List A.
  • In each of the following General Education 2000 areas:

  • Applied Science & Technology, Math/Sciences, Social Sciences,
    Humanities, and Arts
    students must satisfy the requirements with courses in two
    different academic disciplines (courses with two different prefixes). 
  • Students may use one course from major requirements to satisfy General
    Education 2000 requirements, if applicable.
    Courses within the major requirement
    are defined as courses required by the major (appearing in the X area of the audit
    sheet), regardless of course prefix.

  • Diversity and Basic Math courses may be applied toward any requirement (major, general
    education, etc.).
  • With the exception of the diversity requirement, and the Basic Math Requirement as noted above, no other
    double-dipping between GE2K categories is permitted. For example, a course
    which appears as List A for one category and List B for another category may be
    applied toward only one of the GE2K categories.

    Additional Degree Requirements
    In addition to the general education coursework described above, all undergraduate degree candidates must meet the following collegewide graduation requirements:
    • successful completion of required coursework in the declared major
    • successful completion of two 3 credit hour writing intensive ("W") courses
    • successful completion of at least 120 credit hours, of which: 
      • at least 33 must be upper-division
      • at least 32 must be taken at Buffalo State, including the last 16
    • final overall cumulative average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher
    • final major GPA 2.0 or higher
    • successful clearing of all I, N, or X grades
