Graduation Preparation
STEPS TO APPLY FOR GRADUATION
1. Verify that you have earned at least 101 credit hours towards your undergraduate degree or 18 credit hours towards your graduate degree and that you are in your final semester, completing all degree requirements by the end of the graduation term you are applying for.
2. Check Application Deadlines (PDF)
Failure to apply for graduation by the deadline will preclude your name from appearing in the
commencement ceremony booklet and from the commencement information mailing list.
3. Complete the online graduation application, available in Self-Service Banner. Visit our FAQ Section at the bottom of this page for reasons why you would get "no curricula is available" message when trying to apply.
- Log into Banner using your User ID and Pin #
- From the Main Menu, select “Student”
- From the Student Menu, select “Student Records”
- From the Student Records Menu, select “Apply to Graduate”
- For Curriculum Term Selection, click on “Submit”- you do not need to select a term.
- Select your curriculum and click “Continue”
Dual Degree Students OR Degree and Certificate Students- You can only select one curriculum at a time, you will need to go back in and complete the application process a second time for your dual degree or Certificate. - Select your graduation date and click “Continue”
- Review your name as it will appear on your diploma and click “Continue”- for any name changes, please complete the application process and then contact the Registrar’s Office.
- Review your Graduation Application Summary and then click “Submit Request”.
- Dual Degree Students should now go back and complete the process for their second degree.

4. Review Degree Requirements
All students expecting to qualify for an degree from Buffalo State must
fulfill certain degree requirements as outlined in the college catalog and your Degree Works audit sheet.
Questions on degree requirements can best be answered by students departmental advisor.
5. Late graduation applications (after online application has been turned off) and students applying for a
past term degree should stop by or contact the Registrar’s office for the appropriate graduation application
form.

Reasons Why "No Curricula is Available" message appears when attempting to apply for graduation
- You do not have 101 Earned undergraduate credit hours or 18 earned graduate credit hours. The Banner system does not look at in progress/ungraded coursework.
- You have already applied (contact the Registrar's Office with questions).
- You are applying after the established deadline.
- You are attempting to apply for a Certificate
